The consignee is a person or
company mentioned in contract of carriage to whom the
shipment is to be delivered.
Consignee is the receiver of
cargo or goods delivered by land, sea or air.
The named consignee is
mentioned in all documents like bill of lading, if shipment
delivered by land or sea and in air waybill, if goods
delivered by air currier.

The rights of consignee are
regulated by the Warsaw Convention for International
Carriage by Air, 1929 and the Montreal Convention for
International Carriage by Air 1999.
In some cases for some good's
categories, consignee may be responsible for a customs
clearances of received goods.
Therefore it is important
that consignee consults with the local customs office or
with the shipper about the import regulations and tariffs
for imported goods.
These aspects vary from
country to country and are subjects to additional
verifications.
Consignee may have the
right to hire a third party for an inspection of
received goods in terms of quality and quantity
compliancy.
In case if received goods do not
comply with declared specifications, consignee may
submit a complain, based on the third party inspections
report.
However all aspects regarding the
inspections of the cargo should be mentioned in delivery
contract.
