Finance and Trading:
Individual Ownership
Stock certificate registration where one individual holds
sole ownership. An individual account should only include
the first name, middle name (or initial), and last name.
Prefixes such as "Mr.," "Mrs.," and "Dr." should not appear
on the certificate, although some older certificates may
have it on them.
Individual Retirement
Account (IRA)
A tax-deferred retirement account that permits individuals
to set aside up to $2,000 per year, with earnings
tax-deferred until withdrawals begin at age 59 1/2 or later.
Information Agent
An entity contracted by a company to disseminate shareholder
material and provide ongoing support with regard to
shareholder inquiries. Information agents are used most
often by companies that have a corporate action.
Inheritance Tax Waiver
A requirement that is mandated by specific states that taxes
be paid before a security is transferred from the name of a
decedent. Upon payment of taxes, a tax waiver is issued and
the shares can be registered in the name of the decedent.
Also called an Inheritance Tax Waiver.
Initial Public Offering
(IPO)
The first sale of stock by a company to the public.
Inspectors of Election
Individual(s) appointed by a company to tabulate and verify
the proxy votes received from shareholders as a result of an
annual meeting or special meeting of shareholders.
Irrevocable Trust
A trust that, once established, cannot be changed or
terminated without the consent of the beneficiary.
Issued Shares
The sum of all shares that a company has issued and recorded
in its official records as being owned by registered
shareholders, including shares registered to the
corporation.
